Just Serving Requires Just Giving

Financial Management Seminar
The basic DNA of Dawson is serving in the name of Jesus.  The response to the July “Just Serve” emphasis has been incredible!  The Dawson Family always responds to the needs around us.

In many of the serving opportunities throughout the year, the participants provide all or a portion of the costs of the ministry.  However, Dawson’s annual budget includes a substantial amount to support our various ministries and missions activities beyond the walls of Dawson as well as essentially all of the expenses for the ministries within the walls.  Summer is our peak of ministry and missions activities and therefore summer is our peak of expenses in our budget.

Most of our members will not be at Dawson on some Sundays during the summer due to vacations or mission trips or other activities.  However, the ministry expenses continue.  You are encouraged to give your tithe and offerings even when you are not here.  You can give it in advance, mail it in or give it when you return.  Also, this would be an excellent time to give a special offering to support the many ministries of Dawson.

During this summer and always, please continue to “Just Give” as well as to “Just Serve” so that the Dawson Family of Faith can continue to fulfill the Great Commission to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.

Firstfruits or Leftovers?

The uncertainty of the economy is frightening. What will be the impact on my income, my expenses, my retirement and my investments? Is this a short-term “correction,” a long-term recession, or a major global shift in the economy? How can we plan for the unknown?

In the face of such uncertainty, it is difficult to make a financial commitment to God’s work. It even becomes difficult to commit your time because you do not know how your life may change.

The temptation is to plan our financial budget and the use of our time based on our own perceived needs and then give God what is left over. But the Bible is clear that God asks for our firstfruits. Our love for Him, in response to His love and grace, requires that we give Him our best. In committing
to Him, your tithes and offerings should be the first line item in your budget and the time spent in service to Him should be at the top of the list of things you will do.

This is a matter of faith. Faith leads us to commit to Him first and trust Him to meet all of our needs. That does not necessarily mean that He will provide
all of the resources you want but He will meet your needs. Do you truly believe that? Will you put your faith into a commitment to Him? Will He get your firstfruits or your leftovers?

Giving Opportunities

Your generous contributions back to God support the following Dawson ministries:  Missions, Education, Music, Recreation, Media, Health & Wellness, Facilities & Food Services, Personnel & Administration, Camp Dawson (the location of many retreats and outreach activities), and the Dawson Foundation.  There are a variety of ways you can contribute.

Cash or Check
Contributions can be made by cash or check through the following methods:  the offering plate during worship services, through your Sunday School class records envelope, the North Building reception desk or by mail to: Finance Office, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209.

Online Giving
Contributions can be made by using our secure third party Online Giving form. Click here for the necessary link and select the Donation Form.  You may specify a one-time donation or set up recurring donations.  Donations can be made to our budget, our building campaign or other giving opportunities.  You will also be given the option of setting up your own login and password so that name and address information will be automatically retrieved each time you return.

Contribute by Internet Banking
Contributions can be made to Dawson if you use internet banking through your financial institution.  Please reference your church envelope number as your account number when setting this up with your bank.

Contribute Regularly and Easily by Direct Bank Draft
Direct draft is a convenient way to know that your tithes and offerings are going each month to the ministries of Dawson and that you are being found faithful in your giving. Some homebound members use a bank draft to support Dawson’s ministries. Even though they cannot participate physically, they are strong supporters of God’s work.
If you want to give your tithes and offerings through a bank draft, contact Rowan Smith. You will need to sign a release form (see link below), and then Dawson will begin drafting your account once a month.
Click here for the necessary form to complete and return it to the Finance Office.

Investment Securities
Appreciated stock is an excellant way to contribute, because capital gains taxes are not assessed and your contribution goes farther. You can give more by giving stock and being found faithful in your tithes and offerings to do the work of God at Dawson.  You can transfer your stock electronically to Dawson’s account by contacting Rowan Smith, Business Administrator in the church office (205.871.7324). To transfer stock electronically, you need the DTC number and Dawson’s account number. You may also give stock certificates.  A form is available in the Finance Office that must be completed when giving stock certificates.  When donating stock, please contact Rowan Smith to notify him of the transfer.

Contribution Statements
Statements of Contribution are mailed to members at the close of each quarter or you may call the Finance Office at any time for an update on your account.
