What’s Ahead
The Facilities Master Plan Committee is continuing the process of carefully examining both our facility needs and options. You may remember that soon after this committee was appointed, there was publicity in both the electronic and print media regarding a potential commercial development. Our committee patiently and correctly waited to see what imminent changes, if any, would occur that could impact the use of the church’s property. While we are aware that change is constant, it appears that some of the more dramatic changes in the neighborhood are now less likely. As a result, we have now resumed the process of seeing how we can meet the present and future needs of the church. While we have a small physical footprint, we want to use it in a way that will maximize our spiritual footprint in the city. Our multiple worship services on Sunday, as well as allowing our facilities to be used by community ministries during the week, gives us the privilege of impacting our metropolitan area in ways that once appeared impossible for a nine acre campus. Please keep the Facilities Master Plan Committee in your prayers. Ministry Opportunity Thank you for your help with the Dawson Egg Hunt. The Egg Hunt allows parents to participate in an inexpensive event with their children and provides the church an opportunity to place information about the true meaning of Easter into the hands of many. Each year, we deliberately take the message of Jesus to many nations through our expanding mission program. Many international families are already part of our city, and the Egg Hunt has become a major family event for the international community in Birmingham. Thank you for your involvement and support of a mission project that allows us to impact the world without ever leaving the city. What Comes After the Starting Point Beginning this Sunday morning, April 6, I will start a new sermon series called, “The Jesus Who Dwells in Birmingham.” This series will be about the person and the work of the Holy Spirit. For the next two Sundays, there will be free copies of an excellent article by John Ortberg on this subject available at the Marketplace in the church foyer (hallway directly behind the north end of the Sanctuary). Your pastor, Gary Fenton PS: The K.E.Y. chapter of the Bible that I will be teaching on Wednesday, April 9, at 6:15 p.m., is 2 Thessalonians 2. |
