Vibe
Dawson’s Preteen Ministry
Preteens are curious about and aware of the pop culture in the world around them; they need to be mentally and spiritually equipped to deal with the pressures and the influences that surround them everyday. Dawson’s Preteen Ministry, VIBE, is specifically designed to focus on discipleship and fellowship that is uniquely targeted to meet the needs of preteen students. The term VIBE is a constant reminder that God desires for us to be in tune with His purpose for our lives and that He is moving in and around us. Students need opportunities that will encourage Christian relationships and fun moments with spiritual significance that enable them to apply what they are learning to their daily lives. They need experiences to grow in their faith relationship with Christ. It is our desire to think big, offer challenges, and expect results. God is moving in big ways and we hope that you will feel His VIBE as we permeate God’s love in and through this ministry.
Vision: Meet students where they are and make Jesus relevant.

Pumpkin Parable—5th Graders
(Keep scrolling down to see the 6th Graders.)

Each group of 5th Graders chose a pumpkin.
They examined their pumpkin and talked about what they wanted it to become.
They read the instructions, and they found the tools they needed.
First, they cut the top off the pumpkin so they could see what was inside.
Inside they found a lot of yucky, slimy pulp and a lot of big white seeds. They saved the seeds so Mrs. Kristen could roast them for a tasty treat later.
Then they threw away all the “yucky” stuff.
Think about: how God takes us and cleanses us from all our sins. The yucky, slimy pulp is like the sin that’s in us. Romans 3:23 says: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That’s every single one of us.
God has made a way that all our sin can be forgiven and washed away.
The kids decided what kind of face their pumpkin would have and carefully began to carve.
They added eyes, nose, and a mouth. Each pumpkin had its own personality. Each became a “new creation.”
Think about: The Bible says God can make us a new creation too.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
Then, a light was placed inside that pumpkin and it glowed for all to see! Even when the sun went down.
Think about: 2 Corinthians 4:6 says: “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”
And Matthew 5:16 says: “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” So we can become like that pumpkin - a glorious sight for others to see the love of Jesus!
